Chris Cates has released ’Äú365 Songs for 2010 ’Äì Vol. 1’Äù and ’ÄúVol 2’Äù, the first
two CD’Äôs of greatest hits from his ambitious project ’Äò365songsfor2010.com’Äô.
Each disc showcases 20 songs from snowy days in January and February
with Cates playing whatever instrument it takes to make it all happen.
Always an enigma in the independent music industry, Cates has released
many eclectic albums with his band Chris Cates & the Master Plan, as well as,
a popular rock n’Äô roll golf comedy CD, a motivational rock CD and a tribute to
his Carolina roots ’ÄúCarolina Songs’Äù (One of UNC TV’Äôs top stories for 2009).
Instead of slowing down as he enjoys the comforts of Asheville, he was
inspired by his wife Adair’Äôs daily blog. ’ÄúI will write a song and record it every
day in 2010 and blog about it’Äù was declared January 1st and Cates was
propelled into a musical journey to prove the commitment he has to his art.
Playing guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, mandolin, harmonica and many
layered vocal parts on each track, Cates produces each song to be radio
ready and has written some of his best songs to date.
"I was a prolific writer in my teens and now in my 30's I feel like I've found that
same inspiration again. It's very liberating to be able to write any kind of song
about any subject and immediately release it to the world."
On the site, the songs are categorized giving the listeners options like:
acoustic, rock, techno, love songs, sports songs, novelty songs, jazzy songs, heavy metal, spiritual songs, motivational songs, funny songs, etc.
Making the song a day task even more extreme is the fact that Chris
commutes 110 miles a day to drive a truck, pick up and sort curbside
recycling throughout Burke and Caldwell counties for his family's
Simply Green Recycling service; an endeavor that is literally changing the carbon imprint of entire counties.
Along with his brother Bryan and his dad Jim, they have collected and
sorted almost 1,000,000 pounds of recyclable materials in the last two years.
"Some nights it's tough to go out (to the studio) and write and record after
an eleven hour day but somehow I keep digging deep and getting it done".
It is a goal that keeps on giving no matter how tough it may sometimes be.
’ÄúIf nothing else, my legacy will be that I worked as hard as anybody ever has
to make music that might touch somebody, make them laugh or just jam out.’Äù
